What usenet provider to choose?
NZB files are useless if your Usenet/Newsgroup provider doesn't carry the group or hold the retention to let you download the content. There are a ton of providers out there. Most are just resellers of the same providers. There are just a handful of "real" Usenet providers that offer a full range of binary and text groups on the market.
A good provider should let you connect with 20+ connection for maximum speed. It should hold a retention of approx 900+ days for binary groups. If you are concerned about privacy you should pick a provider that will give you SSL included for total privacy.
So, who will i choose?
If you asked us that question only a few months ago, the answer would probably have been Astra or UsenetServer. But due to the fact that most (read all) of the larger "players" (Astra, Giganews, UsenetServer, Supernews etc) are all US based they are under constant Takedown pressure/request due to the DMCA laws.
So what does this mean to me?
If you use the known US Usenet providers (mentioned above) you will experience that more and more NZB files you download will fail to work (missing parts, unable to repair etc), simply because the content they refer too have been removed from the Usenetproviders server due to DMCA laws.
We believe that moving to a Usenet provider located and operated outside the US is the right move. Preferably located in Europe and Holland where the DMCA laws does not exist. This way you will experience fewer takedowns and less problems.
NewsGrabber.nl is a major Usenet provider, located in Holland - they offer a great service - lightning fast, FREE SSL, most payment solutions including PayPal. Services starting as low as € 4.79 a month!
